Think of a Bot as just another user of Gupshup. You can invite a Bot to a group and command it to post messages with the help of keywords. These Bots can read and write messages and conduct complicated workflows for you. Bots are “people” too, in a way. It has many of the same qualities as their human counterparts: they have profile photos, names, they can be direct messaged or mentioned, they can post messages and upload files, and they can be invited to and kicked out of channels and private groups.
Different species of Bots
Each Bot implements its own logic. Bots can connect various services, implement workflows, track, monitor, report, chat, chart your data, alert, remind and much more. And that’s not all. They can even help you communicate with various IoT devices and web services.
Bots + Smart Messages = Magic
Combining Bots & smart message opens up a world of possibilities. Some messages give Bots a rich vocabulary to communicate with their human or Bot friends. So be it any kind of workflow, Bots can perform any kind of workflow magically with Gupshup’s smart messaging capabilities.
Bot to Bot
You can easily link Bots to message each other and perform actions. You can even chain them together to form more advanced workflows like scheduling a message, watching replies to a message, expiring messages, announcing observations and much more.
How do I create custom Bot?
Developers can make their own Bots easily and program them to do any thing. For an omni-channel bot, start by creating a new bot using CreateBot API. You'll need to pick a name for your new bot which can be used to call your Bot across channels. In order to let your Bot perform tasks based on logic, provide the URL endpoint of your web service as the callback URL. Once you've added this the request and your Bot will be integrated across channel(SMS, Twitter, Slack and others).
How do I distribute my Bot user to other teams?
If you are the developer of an app or service that wants to provide Bot-based functionality across channels or you just are working on something cool that you want to share, you can package your service/app as a Gupshup Bot using our omni-channel Bot API and implement it by calling your Bot name in the channel (for instance say in Twitter) according to the procedure given under Bot channel integration.
